Let the EGEE 2nd User Forum begin!
3... 2... 1... and the EGEE 2nd User Forum has begun!

In particular, I was at two sessions: gLite and GIN.

For the gLite one, I found really interesting all the new possibilities that are being considered, specially for the execution services. On the other hand, I believe that the efforts performed by GIN (Grid Interaction Now) are great. The Grid concept has being adopted in different countries and even if the philosophies are similar, the Grid middleware employed is not always compatible. So, if we are talking in building the greatest computer ever in the World, why don't we start uniting Grid infrastructures?

By the way, lunch was very exotic, judge by yourself!

Also, this was a special day for my colleague Tino. He performed his first speech in a conference during the GIN Session. He talked about using GridWay for providing interoperability between all of these infrastructures. I think he was awesome! He explained all the concepts well and was able to answer all the given questions. Congratulations, Tino!

And tonight... The Globus Party! And after that, we are going to perform a Italian-Spanish joint convention. Yes, I'm half Italian and half Spanish, and it's always my objective to unite people from my origins. Of course, people form other countries are invited (21 o'clock in front of the Manchester Central entrance). The expected plan is to dinner together and have some Manchester's traditional drink. Hope to see you there!

Is this GIN the “Grid Interoperation Now” group from OGF?
I agree that the effort on making the different grids to interoperate is crucial.
But, private companies are also building their Grids, like Amazon with its S3 and EC2 services. Do you think the Grids we know as EGEE or OSG will ever be interoperable with those other commercial ones? Is the GIN looking into that at all?

Well, there are some companies in the OGF, but I do not see Amazon there... :-)

Hi Gonzalo!

I believe interoperatibility will be for real. You know what happened with the Internet: So many different implementations at the beginning and some years later... connectivity is provided for everyone in the world.

When it's going to be? Not sure but being efforts both from companies and public institutions I believe it'll be soon.

Anyway, we as the GridWay Project (http://www.gridway.org/), propose two points of view for solving this issue (GridWay itself and Grid4Utility).
